Schema's love of
music
My
passion for music began at the age of 14. I had spent the weekend
at my cousin's place and discovered an old record collection which
kept me entertained for hours. I was fascinated with a rock group
that wore face paint and each member had a mysterious look about
them. I soon found out that I was listening to KISS. From that day
on I wanted to be in a rock band. However, the closest I got to
being in a rock band was buying records and listening to them loud
in my room.
My love
for music resurfaced again when I started going out to clubs and
dance parties. I was really into DJ's and live acts. I found rave
parties to be mysterious and interesting, it was like a whole new
world out there with the music and the lighting effects. I would
always go to the front to watch a live electronic act perform. I
was so curious on how the sound was being produced, where was it
coming from, and what do all the buttons and lights do.
Schema
takes the next step
I took
the next step in music by starting to create my own songs. I knew
what I liked and what sounded cool. I convinced my mum to buy my
brother and I a keyboard and a MC-303 Groovebox. The love for
making my own music just kept on growing and growing. I soon became
obsessed with Rolands old school range of equipment. I purchased a
TB-303 from a dodgy DJ who couldn't use it and soon after that the
classic TR-707 from an x-rocker. My music equipment collection just
kept growing and I had so many toys to play with.
After
writing some songs on my own, I wanted to pursue my childhood
interest in joining a band. After a number of failed attempts I was
put off by the politics, the talk, the lack of commitment, the
clashing of ideas of being in a band. However, things soon changed
for the better.
It is
funny how things turn out, if something is meant to be it will
happen when you least expect. Who would think that so many cool
things can happen to you whilst working in a supermarket. I had
known G-Money from working with him in the supermarket. I knew he
had a passion for music, but I never thought we would be hooking up
and starting a band. We got together for a music session and it was
fantastic. It was the beginning of something really cool. We both
had the same vision and goals with music, together with our own
individual creativity and passion. It has been a great experience
for me which will continue into the unknown future. New Jeff Marni
songs are being written all the time. There's always something new
that we come up with during a Jeff Marni practice session.
